The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the winner of the Saturday, February 23, presidential election held in Anambra state. 360guaranty.com reports that Abubakar defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. With the results declared so far from 15 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the ruling party has won 10 states with 53.67% while Abubakar won 5 states with 43.37%. Out of the states, two are below the 25% threshold.

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra and Atiku's running mate is from the state. The total valid votes were 605,734 and Abubakar polled 524,738 while Buhari narrowly secured 33,298.
