Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have staged a protest in Istanbul, Turkey to draw attention of international community to the plight of those sympathetic to the Biafran cause.

The group in a video uploaded on Facebook by Turkish citizen, Abdulkadir Erkahraman, on Thursday, September 21, alleged that Biafran people occupying the southeast and south-south were at the verge of extinction at the hands the Nigerian security forces.

The group said IPOB was a genuine peaceful organisation agitating for the freedom of the Biafran people.

The supporters alleged that the people of the southeast have been marginalised by the Nigerian government for over 60 years.

The group claimed that in the past one week, more than 1000 Biafrans had either been killed or kidnapped by Nigerian security forces in the Operation Python Dance military offensive.

The IPOB members called on the international community to pressure the government to withdraw troops from the southeast region immediately.

The protesters said they don’t warn war, insisting that all they want is a referendum.
