INEC: 3 fake INEC staff arrested in Lagos


Three men have been arrested by the Lagos Police Command while posing as fake ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission – The police said a laptop and 511 INEC Lagos ad-hoc recruitment forms with attached passport photographs were recovered from the syndicate – The accused persons are being remanded in prison, pending when they fulfill their bail conditions The Lagos Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested three men as they allegedly attempted to recruit unsuspecting members of the public while posing as fake ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The disclosure was made by the Lagos state police public relations officer, Chike Oti, who said the arrests were effected following a complaint from the deputy director of INEC, Shomolu local government, Mrs S.O. Akinwunmi, Daily Trust reports.  360 Guaranty.com gathers that Akinwunmi had lodged the complaint on January 22, 2019. She said some persons at Shop No. 33, Aluta Plaza, Federal College of Education, Akoka, were impersonating INEC workers and recruiting ad-hoc staff. The three men were identified as Kaiyewu Folahan, Akintunde Ibukun and Azeez Kazeem. The police said a laptop and 511 INEC Lagos ad-hoc recruitment forms with attached passport photographs were recovered from the syndicate. The PRO further disclosed that the state commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi, after receiving the complaint, directed the divisional police officer, Pedro Police Station, to infiltrate the camp of the suspects with undercover operatives. The suspects were eventually arrested, following the infiltration by undercover agents. Oti said the suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, January 23, at the Yaba chief magistrate court 2, for conspiracy, impersonation, forgery, fraudulent act and unlawful possession of INEC materials. Pending when they fulfill their bail conditions, the accused persons are being remanded in prison. The case was adjourned till April 16, 2019.
